Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy | In the summer of 1993, director Stephen Spielberg once again made cinematic history with big screen release of "Jurassic Park", a thrilling Sci-Fi adventure based on the best-selling novel by Michael Crichton.

The film centers on an amusement park of cloned dinosaurs in a remote tropical island and stared by Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Wayne Knight and Samuel L. Jackson. Upon its theatrical release, "Jurassic Park" was well received by critics and audiences whom praised the film's impressive special effects. It grossed over 900 million dollars worldwide and received three Academy Awards: Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects.

After such success, it was pretty obvious that Universal Pictures would want to continue the new Sci-Fi franchise and two sequels were released: "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (1997) and "Jurassic Park III" (2001).

"The Lost World: Jurassic Park" stared Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite, Richard Schiff, Vince Vaughn and Richard Attenborough, and for the most part, it is a pretty solid sequel. Beside some mixed reviews, it earned over 618 million dollars worldwide.

For "Jurassic Park III", Joe Johnston stepped up to the director's chair while Spielberg took over the duties of executive producer. The third entry of the franchise was somewhat of a disappointment, compared to the first two films. Although "Jurassic Park III" grossed about half of the previous film, it was still considered a commercial hit.

The new "Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy" Blu-Ray set certainly stands out as one of the must have Blu-Ray releases of 2011. All three films are presented in their original 1.85:1 widescreen format. As far as picture quality, the transfers look great, a considerable upgrade over the DVDs. The 7.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack is outstanding. The 3 Blu-Ray set come very well equipped with an ample variety of extras: many behind-the-scenes and special effects documentaries, storyboards, deleted scenes, picture galleries, production archives, theatrical trailers and a feature commentary by special effects crew (Jurassic Park III). Overall, "Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy" scores an "A-".
